OFFICIAL WEBSITE http://www.azercartoon.com/ "The IV “Molla Nasreddin” Cartoon Contest was completed. 307 cartoonists with 670 works from 63 countries joined to take part in the Contest. The exhibition of the Contest and the Ceremony of the awards presentation was held on the 17th of October in Baku. I am very glad that my colleagues and dear friends found time to participate in this event. I express my deep gratitude to the winners of the Contest: Alessandro Gatto (Italy), Vladimir Kazanevsky (Ukraine), Marat Valiakhmetov (Spain), Stanislav Ashmarin (Russia), Boris Erenburg (İsrael), to the Board of judges of the Contest: Andrey Feldshteyn (USA), Mikhail Zlatkovsky (Russia), Bernard Bouton (France), Rahim Baggal Asghary (İran), Valentin Georgiev (Bulgaria) and to one of the organizers of the Contest, the Рresident of FECO (World Cartoonists’ Organizations Federation), my dear friend Mr. Peter Nieuwendijk (Holland) for their participation in our event. In spite of their lack of time and also health problems (of some of them) they were together with us in this event. I express my deep gratitude to each of them for this attitude and attention. I would like to believe that during the short time of their being in Baku they held interesting meetings and had meaningful holiday. I hope that each guest who came to our country left Baku with good impression. On behalf of all cartoon fans I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan Mr. Aydin Aliyev who made efforts for implementation of this event and is considered to be the organizer of this Рroject. At the same time, on behalf of all cartoonists I express my gratitude to the Culture and Tourism Ministry of Azerbaijan Republic, the Federation of the International Cartoonists’ Organizations and Azerbaijan Artists Union. I believe that this kind of events will be held in our country continuously and we will be able to invite to our country the famous cartoonists of the world in the future. O desenho acima mostra um outro olhar sobre o convidados do FIQ deste ano. O Festival Internacional de Quadrinhos terminou neste fim de semana em Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Segundo os organizadores do FIQ, o público deste ano foi recorde e superou 50 mil visitantes. As caricaturas foram feitas por Bira Dantas, que também era um dos palestrantes do evento. (Bira aparece no canto direito inferior do desenho, ao lado de Benoit Sokal) Dantas usou a imagem ontem em seu blog e a reproduziu hoje na coluna que mantém no site Bigorna. Da esquerda para a direita: Bira Dantas, Marcatti e o francês Pascal Rabaté. Cheguei no fim da fala de Rabaté, que deu oficina de desenho na sexta-feira. 
Aproveitei a abertura de perguntas para a platéia para fazer a minha. A questão foi direcionada especificamente aos dois desenhistas brasileiros. Queria saber como eles viam a política do governo federal de comprar quadrinhos -inclusive adaptações de obras literárias- para distribuir gratuitamente em escolas do ensino fundamental. Do ponto de vista deles, autores, isso tem ajudado a fomentar a volta do gênero "literatura em quadrinhos"? 
Marcatti (foto acima) relativiza. "Eu não sei se essa volta foi impulsionada pelo governo com o incentivo das compras ou pelos autores. No meu caso, foi uma iniciativa minha." Marcatti lançou neste ano uma adaptação de "A Relíquia", de Eça de Queirós. Antes da palestra, ele comentou que via na obra uma outra história, que, coincidentemente, ficou fiel ao romance do escritor português. "Se os programas do governo puderem contribuir para isso [a volta das adaptações literárias em quadrinhos], ótimo. Desde que não atrapalhe." 
Bira Dantas, mostrado na foto, acredita que o pontapé para o ressurgimento das adaptações foi dado pelas editoras. "Quando o governo definiu o edital [de seleção de quadrinhos para o programa que distribui quadrinhos na escola), isso veio num segundo momento, vendo que se estava criando esse mercado." O edital deste ano citava especificamente adaptações literárias em quadrinhos. Mas é fato: a tendência começou há uns dois, três anos. A Escala Editoral adaptou doze romances e crônicas de autores brasileiros. Um deles, "Memórias de um Sargento de Milícias", foi desenhada por Bira. Ele prepara outra adaptação, a do romance "Dom Quixote", de Miguel de Cervantes. O desenhista, que mora em Campinas, no interior paulista, diz que corre contra o relógio para terminar a obra. O "Dom Quixote", versão Bira Dantas, deve ter cerca de 120 páginas. "Eu acho que é uma vertente que está sendo retomada", diz. HBG Communications have published in Brazil "Candido Deodato”. 54 pages, 4 strips per page, 216 strips of humor. In Candido Deodato, Fausto cartoonist depicts the adventures and misadventures of a candidate demagogue, without scruple, wanting to be elected at any cost. Created in 1988, with strips originally published in the newspaper Diário Popular, the character is still current. Twenty years later that the political landscape remains the same. With several candidates wanting to be elected not by ideology or patriotism, but only to settle in financially. Actually, what we fought in the past, can be fought again today. That is, the jokes are the same. Faust showed his talent to the major media outlets in the capital - Folha de S. Paulo, O Estado de S. Paulo, People's Late, People's Daily, S. Daily Paul, TV Culture, among others. Has published four other books: "Without losing the Line," "Forget what he designed," "Dash Extra" and "Viva Africa". Fausto is cartoonist since 1974. Born in Reginópolis, SP, in1952. He studied mechanical drawing, but as a matter of "adjustment", changed the file and walrus by brush and pad and went to work in the daily press. Its big attraction is part of day-to-day newsroom; loves the contact with colleagues, good chat with friends, the excitement, noise and silence of computers. With his art, Faust has illustrated newspapers as Estado SPaulo, Folha de SPaulo, Ultima Hora (SP), Pasquim, Diário do Grande ABC, Popular da Tarde... In parallel to daily journalism, went through set design and art department of Culture and TV animated cartoons for Sports Video TV. Illustrated for the labor press and magazines for Editora Três. Participated in the first shows of the International Humor Exhibition of Piracicaba. In 1998 the Salon International de Saint-Just-Le-Martel (France) and 2001 of the International Design for Media (Porto Alegre). Is the author of "Without Losing the Line" (HQ award-Mix Version 1999), "Forget What He Drew" and "Extra Trace." In 2000 designed the panel commemorating "200 Years of the Garden of Light" (Sao Paulo). He is currently cartoonist Journal Olho Vivo and free-lance illustrator.

Doctor, Comics writer and Editorial Cartoon creator, married to Bira Dantas, cartoonist. Claudia is 53, and was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
